Why choose A-Level French?

94% of the world population do not speak English as their first language and 75% of them do not speak English at all.

Languages are useful not just if you want to work abroad as most UK companies are involved in international trade to some extent

Course Outline

Exam Board: OCR Course Code: 3861

AS level consists of 2 units -

Unit 1 is the speaking test, with a role-play and topic discussion 30%

Unit 2 is a written paper with a variety of listening, reading and writing tasks 70%

Topics covered include:- integration and exclusion, law and order, unemployment: causes and consequences, the individual and the environment, energy management, pollution; causes, consequences; solutions, conservation of the natural world, medical progress: development and change, scientific advances: change and motivation, technological developments: change and development, literature and the arts, current political issues, heritage and history: influence and impacts of heritage and historical events on contemporary society including France and French-Speaking countries.

Resources and facilities

All teaching Staff are graduates in MFL (French, German and Spanish)

Le Figaro and other authentic texts

Up to date A level textbooks

Authentic films and documentaries

At least 1 lesson per week with Foreign Language Assistant

Literature texts

Dedicated 6 Form teaching room with interactive whiteboard and reference library

Access to Computers in MFL area, Library, 6 th form centre

Profile of Former Students

Joanne Grant took French and German A level and is now studying Masters degree in French and Chemistry at St Andrews University in Scotland

Entry requirements

Minimum B at GCSE, preferably A or A* to enable the students to cope with rigours of the course.
