Course Outline

The subject is divided into two papers: Philosophy and Ethics.
In Philosophy amongst the topics you will look at are the history of thought starting with the great philosophers Plato and Aristotle; arguments for how the universe began; the problem of evil; beliefs about body and soul and life after death.
In Ethics the topics covered will include: ethical theories such as moral relativism, natural law, utilitarianism and practical ethics such as euthanasia, business ethics, genetic engineering, sex and relationships; as well as ideas such as conscience and free will and determinism.
Careers and progression
Philosophy and Ethics A Level is an excellent subject to accompany a range of other A Levels particularly English, History, Psychology, Sociology and Science or if you simply want to try something different.
If you are interested in a career in medicine, law, journalism, criminology, teaching and many others this subject will be an asset.
Entry requirements
You will need to be competent in English language as you will be required to write essays and there is a coursework option.
Minimum of 5 grades C or above including English.
