A-Level Religious Studies
Why choose A-Level Religious Studies?
Religious Studies AS/A level gives students the opportunity to examine the world's second largest religion, the topical faith Islam. The other half of the course is Philosophy, which examines the deep questions of life that mankind have been trying to answer since the beginning of time. Religious Studies encourages students to question and explore current issues as well as their own views and opinions.
Course Outline
AS Level (Year 12)
Unit 1 - Foundations in Religion
Unit 2 - The Study of Islam
Unit 3 - Philosophy of Religion
A Level (A2) (Year 13)
Unit 4 - Philosophy 2
Unit 5 - Islam 2
Unit 6 - Islamic Philosophy
The exams in Year 12 are all an hour long; Unit 1 is taken in January while the other two are taken in the main exam season in May/June.
Unit five is taken as coursework at the beginning of Year 13 and has to be submitted in January. Unit 5 and 6 are taken as 1 ½ hour exams in June.
Careers and progression
The study of Religion is excellent preparation for any academic course at degree level. It is also useful for careers in Law, Health, education, social work and Media. Religious Studies is a valuable asset to these jobs as it helps you understand other people that you may work with. Analysis and evaluation involved in this course are useful skills for any career or research.
