This course is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in the aviation industry such as Air Cabin Crew, Commercial Pilot or Airport Customer Service Agent.
The BTEC National Award in Aviation Operations (Level 3) gives learners a sound foundation in the aviation industry, whilst also developing skills which are essential for gaining employment or securing career progression with a Level 3 qualification.
The additional Air Cabin Crew Skills qualification introduces to learners the relevant roles, disciplines and skills which specifically relate to Air Cabin Crew duties within an aircraft environment.
Course Outline
This two year course consists of the Edexcel BTEC National Award in Aviation Operations (Level 3) and the OCNW Level 2 Certificate in Air Cabin Crew Skills.
The BTEC qualification is equivalent to 1 full A-level and contains 6 Units:- The Aviation Industry
- Health, Safety and Security in the Aviation Industry
- Meeting Customer Needs in the Aviation Industry
- Air Travel Information
- Handling Air Passengers
- Aircraft Operation
The Cabin Crew Skills qualification contains the following 4 units:
- Understanding Pre-and Post-Flight Duties
- Understanding On-Aircraft Duties
- Applying Effective Cabin Service in an Air Cabin Environment
- Group-Work skills in an Airline Environment
Aviation Academy Uniform
All students will be required to wear a uniform for some classes. You are expected to wear black suits and purchase the Aviation Academy scarf/tie. This uniform is to be worn to agreed standards when in College and on College trips/business.
Trips & Visits
Students have the opportunity to participate in various educational trips (at additional cost) over the two years, including visits to airports, aviation training facilities, as well as real flight experience opportunities.
Resources and facilities
Students will have the opportunity to study in an industry standard learning environment complete with aviation resources/facilities, ICT facilities, and specialist aviation teachers.
A number of classes will be held in aircraft cabins, with the emphasis on practical application.
Careers and progression
The aviation industry is growing at a rapid pace, and this course is provides an allround introduction to the aviation industry for those who wish to further their careers in one of its many occupational areas. These include roles in airports such as customer service agents and aircraft ground handling, along with traditional airline jobs including cabin crew and flight deck crew.
Students wishing to pursue careers as Commercial Pilots, Aerospace Engineers or Air Traffic Controllers may wish to complement this course by also studying A-level Mathematics, Physics or Geography.
Completion of the course also offers the opportunity to progress into Higher Education to study an aviation related subject at degree level, or alternatively, the opportunity to study for aviation industry (career specific) qualifications.
Entry requirements
A minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grades A*-C (or equivalent) including English and Maths.
Course applicants will also have to undertake an interview selection process.
